Vivid Dream- Part 1

There is in man only one true source of original composition. This source is to be found in Man’s “superconsciousness’ and not in his conscious work-a-day mind. The great composers of our history either instinctively drew on this creativity from deep within or, in some documented cases, actually were aware of and consciously drew on this source. For example: Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Mozart, and Ludwig Van Beethoven. I humbly confess that I have through meditation , at times tapped my superconsciousness, with gratifying results. But as Mozart pointed out that is not enough in itself for it is essential to be a well studied craftsman in the techniques of the compositional art form.

To appropriately prepare the mind to reach the ‘superconsciousness’, employ the process of prayer and meditation followed by listening without any preconceived ideas. Even the agnostic employing this meditation and prayer technique will be surprised. Joseph Haydn believed in his period of composition that he was working a “veritable ritual” as he called it. He always dressed up in his best clothes before commencing work. He said “I am now going to commune with God, and I must be appropriately dressed”. To a questioner he added ” When I decide to compose, I pray and thank God that it has been accomplished. Then I do it. If it doesn’t come the first time, I pray again. Then it comes”.
